Thank you for visiting our site. We are a non-profit organization founded to create safer communities by globally impacting social justice issues through strategic collaboration with community partners. In doing so, we honor the life and legacy of the late Rev. James D. Bush, II and Sis. Betty Mae Crawford-Bush.
Rev. James Drew Bush, II and Sister Betty Mae Crawford Bush were leaders in their church, retired school board employees, entrepreneurs, respected community leaders, but most importantly loving parents and grandparents.
Natives from The Great State of Georgia, they settled down in Northwest Florida, making Panama City, Florida their home. They married and were the loving parents of thirteen (13) children, losing one child shortly after birth. They were nothing short of exceptional to every grandchild, born from their union.
They not only talked the talk, but they walked the walk. Lying the foundation of faith, family and love for their heirs to follow. Instilling in all who followed their lead an amazing work ethic, morals, values, principles and a passion for community. Traits that money can never buy!
In God's perfect timing, Sis. Betty Mae Crawford-Bush transitioned from this earth in December 2011 after a contentious battle with Alzheimer's. In July 2019, Rev. James D. Bush, II transitioned from this earth. Thinking of a way to honor the life and legacy of the deceased, their granddaughter Tyisha Anthony, began contemplating on the best way to move their legacy forward around August 2021.
Relocating back to Miami, Florida in January 2021, Tyisha saw what many leaders already knew, Miami-Dade County had a serious gun violence problem. Additionally, many other social issues plagued the county and its residents. Understanding that with great reward, comes great responsibility, Tyisha knew she had to act. She became actively involved within the community and began vigorously advocating for a better society for all.
There was only one issue.... who do you represent? What should have been a simple answer, was in fact, a convoluted question. And depending on the day or event, the answer changed. She had an epiphany; realizing that all her advocacy could be done in honor of her late grandparents, while strategically working with community partners. In June 2022, the concept of The Rev. James and Betty Bush Family Foundation was birthed with an anticipated inception and inaugural event day of 11 August 2022.
Due to unforeseen medical reasons, the inaugural event had to be postponed, while the groundwork for the foundation continued to be laid. Fortunately, the delay was short-lived and on Monday, 3 October 2022, The Rev. James and Betty Bush Family Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the "JBBF Foundation") launched its inaugural "Community and Sports" event at the FTX Arena for the Miami Heat's Red, White and Pink Game. An event earmarked to raise proceeds benefiting cancer care and research at the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida. A noteworthy cause, dear to our hearts, in honor of all those who are currently battling, have survived or succumb to cancer.
Since our inception and inaugural event, we have proudly supported many noteworthy causes in the community to eradicate social issues including; Dedication to Community "Serving in the 21st Century" conversations, Dr. Robin Stark's "United Cry for Togetherness" conversations, Impact's "The Florida Summit" conversation, Lou's 6th Annual All White Affair, S.A.B.V., The Jack P. Brown, III Foundation "Mother's of Strength" conversations, Miami-Dade County's Hometown Heroes 2022 Parade, Christ Fellowship at Palmetto Bay "Big Serve Day", Dream Defender's "Culture Conversation", Bullets4Life workshops and Circle of Brotherhood Peacemakers Summit.
We have also sponsored many non-profit agencies and community organizations in bringing youth and other community members to Miami Heat and/or Miami Marlins games including Miami-Dade Police Department Youth Outreach Unit, Mother's Fighting for Justice, Marlin Goodluck Foundation, Volunteers of America, Dedicated Interventions for Youth, Londonade, Reality House, Inc., and Cool Church. We concluded 2022 by collaborating with Christ Fellowship, City of Miami Police Department, S.A.B.V., The JPB3, Commissioner Kionne McGhee, Senator Jason Pizzo, Rita McIntyre Bush, Valerie Jackson, Miami Community Police Benevolent Association and several community members from Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay. Based on this collaboration, we gifted ninety (90) seniors and families throughout Miami-Dade County facing difficulties with Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, hosted thirty (30) foster youth from Cirtus Family Network and HisHouse and five (5) Miami-Dade Police Department officer chaperones at a Miami Heat game, and assisted sixty-three (63) children with Christmas gifts and one (1) mother with money for gas.
To further this vision, we need your support! Please consider volunteering, taking a leadership role within the organization, or give to our worthy causes through both in-kind and financial contributions. Thank you in advance!
